4th of July

The plan was to stay home and don't do anything at all, after all the temperature was at around 114 degrees. However my son sent mi chica a text saying "Party at my house". Then a second text "Be there or be square". Then he sent another one that only said "Party!"

At the same time my daughter walks in and shows us that she received a text too saying, "Party at my house, BYOD". She later found out that contrary to popular belief BYOD meant "Bring Your Own Diapers". Yeap! I think I have mentioned before that my son is a total nut.

So, Friday we went to spend a good part of the day at my sons. I accepted to go only because he has a swimming pool and we knew that would be the only way to stay cool. He treated us to some hamburgers and hot dogs and I made a green salsa for the chips which I know everyone likes. The must have been really good because for a while there he could not keep up with all of the starving souls that were there.

I decided to throw my own twist to a holiday classic and opted for hamburger patty and turkey frank tacos. Yes, you read this correctly T_A_C_O_S which along with some tomato and my most excellent green salsa tasted better than I even imagined. "Memo to me, must write this down in the Joe Cool's recipe book." "Addendum to memo to me, first Joe Cool must start a recipe book."

The heat was brutal, the water was not even a little bit cold, but every so often we got this wonderful breeze that just felt like heaven. We spent a good amount of time inside the swimming pool, pretty much until all of us had our feet and hands skin all wrinkled.

We then said good bye and headed for my sister's as it was my niece's birthday. Yeah, she made the phrase "Born on the 4th of July" popular even before Tom Cruise. We stayed there for a little while and then headed for home. The kids as usual headed to the park to watch the fireworks.

Birthday girl and grandma.

Not even an hour later they were back. Starting at six, we had a lighting show provided by mother nature and the wind picked up big time. A monsoon came and forced the fireworks show to be cancelled. It was postponed for next Saturday. The kids were disappointed but they were so tired from a long day of fun that didn't even fight us when they were sent to bed.

And that in a nut shell was our 4th of July. How was yours?

Wow... you have ESPN because my 4th of July sounds oddly like yours! That's awesome! I guess that meant I had a great time. EXCEPT I don't remember eating tacos... I remember eating hamburgers and hot dogs.

Looks like it was a great time. Not bad for something you didn't even plan to do.
