Happy Birthday Mom!

Just a quick not to wish my mom a Happy Birthday today. This is her, mother of five, grandma of many, and great grandma of a few more. My mom is a fighter, an economist, an entrepreneur, a cook, a gardener, a counselor, a friend, and many other wonderful things. Keeps us on edge, and still kicks our butts when needed. Me, I try to walk the right path before doing something I know she won't like, although I have done a few of those too.

Celebration Time

My mini coffee bar was stocked and ready. Sweet Mexican bread, and cheese cake as well as a couple of different types of coffee, it was all ummm ummmm good.

Well Michelle and I, but mostly Michelle got the house ready for the fiesta. Since the guys had made plans to go out we felt a simple Cafesito Party would be enough. After all we all like coffee and good company so if you put one and one together it's a winning combination.

After cleaning the kids were sent to nap, while Michelle went to get a hair cut. She picked up the sweet bread, cheese cake, and powder creamer as Nikki requested. I organize a "Cafe con Leche" fiesta and she requests powder creamer, yuck! Ummmm leche!

Loyiel's birthday was last Wednesday, Nikki's was on Thursday, and Frank's was Friday. In addition Loyiel and Nikki's Wedding Anniversary was also on Thursday (Nikki's birthday). The icing on the cake was Nikki's last day of school which was also Thursday. I think Nikki was really celebrating. So they planned to go bar hoping at Westagate on Saturday, and Westgate is a really nice place to do that.

Westgate City Center.

This gathering was supposed to start at 6:00 p.m. and would go on until they left for Westgate but some showed up well after 7:00 and some after 8:oo pm but in our family that is no surprise. The coffee and sweet bread was flowing steadily and the cheese cake too.

Loyiel and Nikki, the birthday couple.

Nikki and birthday boy Frank.

Party people, Michelle, Jeniffer, Nikki, Loyiel, Cindy, and Kika.

Nikki blowing me some kisses and saying I love you Daddy... At least that's what I though she said.

In the end as always we had fun and enjoyed each others company. The weather has been cooperating so we spent most of our night outside in the patio enjoying the cool night air.

What's New?

Hello everyone, my daughter has come through once again and on Sunday she spent a couple of hours creating little buttons per my request. Have any of you noticed that she placed a button on my sidebar liking each one of my friends? No? Then take a moment to locate yours and if you are not there please let me know so that I can have one added. I just think they look pretty cool. Do you agree with me?

Look to the left and then scroooooll down until you find them.

So, tomorrow I'll be taking the day off and so will mi chica. Heck, tomorrow should be declared a national holiday and everybody should take if off and celebrate with me. What am I celebrating you wonder? Well, my birthday of course, as of today I am still 48 but tomorrow I will be only on year away from the big 5 ~ 0. I don't see my birthdays as getting older, I see them as wow! I lived one more year, and it makes me look forward to the next.

Oh, and talking about birthdays, last Sunday was my youngest grandson's birthday party, he turned one. It was a small intimate family gathering full of fun and great company. Since we are in Phoenix my son and daughter in law made it a swimming party. My daughter Michelle is our official party planner and she help them set up the party. The theme was SpongeBob SquarePants, now I don't have any pictures right now but will try to post some later on when I get home, so come back and revisit this post later.

Happy Birthday Juanito

My son and I have been blessed with a mutual respect for each other, I like him and he actually likes me, I love him and he loves me back. It's like we were meant for each other. I enjoy seeing him and like spending time together with him. This we haven't done as of late but at least we had a terrific day at the races two weeks ago. Yeap we are buddies, we are friends, but above all, we are father and son or son and father.

And yet we are so different and love to tease each other about it. Let me give you some examples:

He loves sports.
I hate sports.

He loves pizza
But for me it's tacos.

He'll watch the Super Bowl.
I'll watch the commercials.

He loves his teams.
I'm all for the cheer leaders.

He roots for the Raiders
Me, the Cardinals

He, The Bulls
Me, The Suns

He's a Chevy guy
I love Fords

Do you get the idea? We never seem to agree on anything, but you know what, that's absolutely fine with me. I love it that he developed his own mind, and did the things he wanted to do, I love to hear about his successes and will listen about his failures too. But above all I love that he knows he can count on me through think and thin and that we are and will be always here for him.

On Thursday my son reached a milestone as he turned 30 years old. I guess his two younger sisters got the best of it all as they both had their "Quinceaneara" party celebrations and he got zip, cero, nada. So today, the girls in his life headed by his mom and his wife along with his two sisters did their best to surprise him with his very own "Treintanero" party. He is getting his quinceanera party times two. lol

To know my son is to love him. He has the wackiest sence of humor. No one can go more that two minutes without laughing while around him, and his two sisters love him to death too. I trully am lucky and blessed to have him as a son and I know that this feeling I have is shared by many.

So, all of you out there in blogland if you so feel inclined to join me in singing a Happy Birthday song to him please be my guest and take the lead... What, you want me to lead? OK on three -- One, Two, Three:

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear mijo (Juan to the rest of you)
Happy birthday to you
and many more...

Happy Birthday Mom

Today is a very special day because my mom reached her 75th birthday. To say she is excited is an understatement. Last night she was telling me that she never thought she would reach such a milestone.

Well, my mom is still here and is the axis of our family unity. I have mentioned before that my dad and mom came to the US in hopes that they would give us a better life that what we could have had in Mexico. It all started as the two of them here, leaving us all behind in Mexico until one by one they brought us all here.

Well, the days of just the two of them are long gone, the family grew, and grew, and grew to what it is today. On any given major occasion there can be as many as a hundred of us, and it is thanks to them that our whole family is united.

My father passed three years ago but I know tonight he'll be with us to celebrate my mom's birthday.

Looking forward, I know my mom will continue on her journey just as God has it planned for her. Hers is a story of success and good examples as to how life should be lived. However we all know how easy it is for her to also be abrasive and how easy it is for her to argue. Oh yes, she will argue until you give in or at least pretend to give in. Her rule number one is probably the one that says "Mom is never wrong".

So I invite you to join me to congratulate her and to wish her a very happy 75th birthday.

Me and my mom on Father's Day 2006

When they all say I'm your favorite
It fills my heart with such joy
And my face displays a big grin
That they all fear it'll explode.

Who am I to be so lucky?
Why you never tell me, no.?
What has bonded us together
I don't really want to know

All I know is that in this life
I better enjoy you now
I won't leave it for tomorrow
Cause tomorrow may not come

Yes today I count my blessings
And I thank our God above
For you reached another birthday
His present for us no doubt

In a little country town
You started your wonderful journey
What a great life you've had

You have tought us to be noble
You have tought us to be wise
I don't know why we don't listen
But I promise I will try

Today I thank you for bringing me
Into this wonderful world
That allows me one more time
To tell you Happy Birthday dear Mom

Happy birthday mom, I love you with all my heart and soul.
