Fabulous Fords Forever 2012

I've been interested in Mustangs since my uncle was given a dilapidated 66 fast back that got resurrected and eventually stolen never to be found. As a teenager I got to drive it everyday to school for a whole year and I knew then I would some day own one.

Then in 1990 I purchased a used but well kept 93 convertible which I still own to this day. The fox body is showing it's age so I decided to purchase another used Mustang, this one a 2007 coupe. I enjoy and love both my ponies and actually really drive them alot.

The interior of my 07. Gotta have the comforts to make those trips more enjoyable.
I know a lot of people that buy this cars only to put them in their garage and used them occasionally on a weekend drive, but not me. I am of the belief that it's a machine and it has to be used and enjoyed, otherwise what is the point?

So at least eight years out of the thirteen that I have owned my fox body I have made the treck to California for the yearly Fabulous Fords Forever car show at Knott's Berry Farm and to me it just does not get old. This year was not the exception. The trip was nice, the weather was the best for the show in all the years I have attended, it was slightly cloudy and the sun only briefly broke through just before the show was over. So it wasn't hot at all as compared to previous years.

There she is, capturing little video pegs during at the show.
Another plus is that Abby actually enjoys coming to the car shows with me and totally gets into the spirit of things. She likes having the souvenier t-shirts and is good at taking pictures too. Now if I could only get her to like lowered cars. She claims they do not look good lowered which is crazy thinking if you know what I mean.

My dream pick up truck is an old Ford F-100 and when I showed her one I liked at the show she agreed with me 100%, yep, I say she is definitely a keeper.

At nearly 2000 cars on display it is hard to keep track of which aisles we had walked and which one we hadn't but overall I think we pretty much covered most of the show. The Capri section brought her memories as my lil sister's first car was a Capri and they used to probably ditch school and go cruising in it. She says no, but I am sure they did. She had to take a couple of pictures of one and texted it to her.

My little sister's first car was a Capri just like this one.
To many cars are only transportation but to some of us they are an extension of our individuality and many of us have memories from days gone by which were brought but a particular vehicle. Many firsts happen in a car and also many bad memories too. Bottom line, getting from point A to point B is always better and more enjoyable if you like your car.

Too bad she still doesn't know how to drive a stick shift. Not! she drives faster than I.
As usual I took too many pictures from the show so here are some I liked, I hope you enjoy them too.

Awesome station wagon.
This Galaxy was fully restored and very pristine.
Loved this vintage pedal Mustang.
Abby really liked these T-birds.

A woody!

Fully restored tow truck.

Can I have one of each or all of the above?

Fabulous Fords Forever 2011

Oh yeah baby, I have been waiting for this date to be announced since the beginning of the year. This is my open invitation for all those that may want to attend this year trip to Knott's Berry Farm for the Fabulous Fords Forever car show.

I am excited cause this year I won't be taking the Fox Body, my 2007 is ready and willing to make the trip this year. We missed the show last year as most of us went on hiatus but after a successful snow day I want more of these family outings. Ducky may even be taller than the infamous height line for most of the rides.

Me and my trusty steed will make the trip this year. Will you?

So this is the first of more posts in reference to this trip. I want to start seeing raised hands to find out who wants to go. My hand is raised up already cause I am going, so speak up and let me know it should be a blast.

Traditionally this family outing has definitely been a favorite for everyone that has participated. As a rule we make a whole weekend of it with all of us going to the amusement park on Saturday while on Sunday the girls either hit the alleys, the nail shops, or just plain stay home resting while us guys go the the car show. Aside Mr Junior getting a ticket for tailgating me while coming back two years ago, it's always a smooth and well planned trip.

I will soon let you know ticket prices.

The Car Show

It's Sunday and we have to be in the parking lot before 10:00 am or they will close the doors on us, it's a good thing I had the opportunity to wash the car on Saturday. On previous years I had to get up at 6:00 am to wash the car. Both my sons in law were coming with me, my daughter threw us a huge curve and sent the kids with my in law.

Oh, I'm all about family and kids but this show is not designed with kids in mind. The cars parked out in the open parking lot, this particular Sunday was hella hot and the pavement makes it even hotter. Usually about 2000 cars give or take register and this Sunday was no exception. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Fox Bodied Mustangs I thought they would keep us all together. Normally Fox Body Mustangs are sent way to the back of the parking lot. Well this year was no exception but for whatever reason this year the convertibles got prime spot and while all cars were parked inside the parking lanes us convertibles got a spot and a half, meaning we had plenty of space in between cars. Too awesome!

Anyway, back to the kids, I got to babysit the whole day. We walked up and down the rows and rows of cars at the mercy of the sun and a few hours later I knew they were suffering. My little Duck was in his stroller so he didn't even take one step but Noe walked as much as I did, he was tired and sunburned and finally Loyiel very against his will had to head back home to take them to safety.

Junior and I stayed to film some of the cars leaving the park. They changed the way we exited so to keep the cars from doing burnups, the wimps, what's a little burnout before leaving the show. The endless parade of cars which by the way are mostly Mustangs is usually enjoyed by bystanders that know about the show. They'll sit there giving the participants a thumbs up.

Once on the freeway it's Amazing how many Mustangs were on it. In California the speed limit seems to be a suggestion as most cars drive extremely fast. Just wait until Arnold decides to put cameras on the highway as they did here in Arizona.

We finally got home at around 4:00 and I was exhausted from the heat. As I walked in the house and sat on the couch, no let me rephrase that, and layed on the couch I was out for the next two hours.

I had every intention of visiting Wanda and my sister but by the time I woke up it was too late. So Wanda and Chely, there's always a next time.

The Weekend

Diego's party was a hit, the car show was a hit too, and the weekend was a hit. On Sunday we all went out for breakfast and then the kids decided to go buy some presents to Diego with part of the look he got for his birthday. Then they all left except Diego, and that pretty much gave mi chica and I a quiet Sunday.

We are almost caught up with the Christmas movies that we still had in the DVR and had not been able to watch, I believe there is maybe one more and then I can officially say we are done until next December. In the meantime I already have Sex In the City, What Happens in Vegas, The Bucket List, and Maid oh Honor in the queve.

Although I spent my morning with Diego I kindda ditch him in the afternoon, he had his handsful wiht all his little friends but still let me know he knew I left him. I, do I smell some major making up, probably.

I left this.

And this...

For these...

But I did get his permission.

Local Car Show

There's a small church right around the corner from where I live and for three consecutive years they have thrown a Hot Rod Car Show. For one reason or another I had never been able to go see the cars but last night told mi chica to wake me up early on Saturday so I could go.

Saturday is my day to sleep late but I had plans for this particular Saturday. Not only was the Hot Rod show going on but the Thunderbirds were in town and there was going to be a huge air show over at Luke's Air Force Base. Our "Ducky" is at his four years of age a huge Hairplaine aficionado and so Nikki thought taking him would be a must. But more on this later on a different post.

Now, back to the car show. I got up and took a refreshing shower so I could wake up. Then I headed to the car show which was about two minutes away from me. Yeap if you guessed that I drove instead of walked you are right. Walking would have taken me abut ten minutes to get there and it was already hot. There was plenty of parking at the church and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was a great turnout for the event. Both in cars being displayed and in spectators walking around enjoying the show cars.

There was a little bit for everyone, plenty of Chevy's and Fords and some Buicks and Oldsmobiles, Cadilacs, a DeLorean, and even a few custom bikes. I of course concentrated on the Blue Oval kind of machinery but I squeezed a couple of Bow Ties for my son.

Just a small portion of the car on display this morning. It was a little hot but hey it was a HOT ROD show after all.

There were even a couple of old Datsun 240Z, and to my surprise a 59 BMW. Now 59 wow, that is as old as I am. I never stopped to check what a 59 BMW would look like and today there it was right in front of me. Funky little thing isn't it? But sure enough, look closely and there it is right on the front center. The BMW propeller.

This little red BMW just happened to be a '59. How about that. I didn't even know they had BMW back then.

It was hot and sunny and not one cloud on the sky. Many of the people displaying their cars sat there but I am sure it had to be very uncomfortable and sticky. Next Saturday my car club, the Copperstate Mustang Club will be having our Spring Car Show and let me tell you we are pretty smart because we are having the show in the afternoon. So at that time we should only get a short time of heat and then nothing but nice afternoon shade and breeze.

Again there will be more on that show in some upcoming posts.

This are some more shots of the cars on display. From the Datsuns to the Ford to the boney driver on this hot rod. All in all a good show with close to sixty awesome looking cars on display.

Knott's Bound

It sucks! It turns out the hard drive on my lap top called it quits. So, again it seats on the top of a table waiting for the IT guy to see if he can bring it back to life. If I know this guy a little bit, then I know that my computer is far away from being in the top of his priorities. So... who know when I'll have a working computer again.

There is a good chance that all my files are once again gone. But as I said the last time, they are only files and one thing I found out about computers is that they keep getting file after file so that problem will be solved just as soon as I have a computer again.

In the meantime I hug mi chica's desk top computer at home. She kept asking me, "when is your computer going to be ready?" Oops! I think she now knows it won't be any time soon.

Only because I can't afford a new one.

In other news, a lot of us family members will be going to Knott's Berry Farm in April. This is a trip we really love and have done many times before. The whole thing revolves around my Mustang. As many of you already know I am a Mustang enthusiast. Here in Phoenix I am a member of the Copperstate Mustang Club and every year many of the members make the trip to Buena Park California for the weekend for the annual Fabulous Fords Forever car show in Knott's Berry Farm.

We normally take off from Phoenix on Friday afternoon and get to West Covina later that night. Then on Saturday we all go to Knott's and spend the day there. There are many Disneyland addicts in my family but for me Knott's is better for the value. As mi chica and I have grown older, we are no longer the daredevils we once were and just enjoy going there to see the sights and ride some of the lame rides with our grand kids.

I have more fun seeing them discover new things than doing the rides. The last time we went three years ago most of them were too little to have fun, but this year my two older grand kids are 8 and 7 years old, and Diego is about to turn six. These three should really enjoy it. Ducky is only five but I have a feeling he will love it too. The other three are still too young and will bug all day I'm sure, but we'll try to keep them entertained by pushing them all over the park in their strollers.

How funny, because the first time Diego went to Knott's he was only two weeks old. He's been there at least two more times since but I can guarantee you that he'll think this time is his first.

I just got confirmation and my car will be in the show on Sunday. So, while the girls take the day to go out and get pedicures, manicures, and what not us guys will head down to Knott's Berry Farm again and enjoy the show. This show usually attracts about 2000 cars with 60% of them being Mustangs. It sells out every year so I wasn't sure if my late application would still be accepted. I know now I have a spot. This year they will be highlighting the Fox Body Mustangs as it is their 30th Anniversary. I have a 93 which is the last year model for the Mustang Fox Body.

So far there are about 25 of us going, most of us from Phoenix but my niece Crystal and my niece Becca and her boyfriend Danny will join us too. They are locals from L.A. I am really looking forward to this trip. First because my kids and all my grand kinds will be going, and second because even with these hard times we will be able to go out together as a big family without breaking the piggy bank.

Fox Body Mustangs, celebrating their 30th Anniversary.
