Hunger Games Midnight Show

That only sounds like one of my daughters, the culprit that I too am glued to these books. Being almost at the end of "Catching Fire" the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy I too am excited about watching the movie on the big screen however I don't know that I am built for midnight shows full of screaming teenagers but nevertheless being that my sweetheart will be here with me and will go with us will make me stand anything.

I am putting off watching "Breaking Down" part one only because I didn't want to wait half a year to watch the second part. So, I will patiently wait until part two is released and then watch the first part just before the theater release of part two. With Harry Potter I always waited to read the book just before the movie release but I believe the release of "Catching Fire" the movie won't be until November 2013 and that's too long to wait so... I will just finish the three books and then just wait for the movies to come out.

It is expected to be a huge opening, a "Twilight" kind of opening so I am preparing for anything. As long as I am on a full stomach I will be happy, let the name of the movie be just a name, no need for acting it or living it. First food then movie, and when it comes to me, hopefully no hunger. Did I hear somebody say tacos?

Well fast forward a little bit. Abby got here at around 4:00 pm, we visited my mom and got fed, and later we joined Michelle and Nichole at the theater and got to wait for two hours still for the showtime. I think they waited about four hours but were able to get us good seats. Little by little we all got there in the end out little group consisted of eight people.

No, I won't spoil the movie but I will tell you that even if you have not read it is a great movie to watch. The violence contains no gore and the acting was not too bad so yes now I look forward for part two which as I stated before won't happen until November 2013, I think!

'Hunger Games' Review: Compelling But Implausible, Like 'American Idol' with a Body Count ~ Alonso Duralde

Will I do another midnight show? Probably not! I can patiently wait for the second week after release to watch the movie in peace and without noisy teenagers that won't shut up.

Movie Night

I should have a peaceful quiet weekend, the younger crowd in this family is camping and mi chica has to go to work which means I should catch up on some of my chores, run some errands, and go exchange a couple of items at the store. The car needs washing and so do our house windows but I don't know if I'll get to those.

I'm watching "The Circuit", a cheese karate movie with Olivier Gruner, no plot other than the underground illegal fights where the hero always save the day at the end. Yeah, for stupid plots with lots of action and fighting sequences. Wax on, wax off, wax... oh excuse me wrong movie.

I am now into the second feature. "Exit Speed", another cheese action type movie. The info. info. read as follows: Ten bus passengers become stranded and must fight off murderous bikers from inside a scrap yard. At first I thought it would be the outlaw kindda bikers but this movie turned out to be young bikers on rice burners doing tricks and killing for no reason at all. Lea Thompson is on this one.

Sometimes it's just fun to watch B movies, stupid as they may be sometimes they are fun.

Speed Racer

Mi chica and I took our grandson to watch "Speed Racer". The movie in our eyes was great but then again I was prepared for disappointment. I grew up watching the series when I was a kid so it was obvious that I had a great interest in watching the movie.

It started a little slow as they had to build the story. I believe "Speed Racer" has been playing on and off on some obscure channels so many people are not familiar with it. Some time ago the theme song was revived by some group in "rave format and many people found out about Speed Racer thanks to it."

The races were totally fake as was the violence which made it OK for younger viewers. The cars "drift" through the elevated tracks complete with corkscrews, loops, and ramps all made of metal and just like in the original series the cars have a plethora of offensive and defensive devices.

The movie is mostly computer animation, the backgrounds are awesome and the action is fun to watch. It has a couple of good laughs thanks to Speed's little brother and his inseparable pet.

If you liked the mixture of human acting and computer animation in the old movie "Tron" or even better in "Lawnmower Man" then you'll like this movie. If you are around my age and remember the original series, you may like the movie but if you are lucky enough to have a grandchild or a son to go with you and you see the movie through his/her eyes, then you'll really enjoy the movie.


My grandson cheered and clapped as he pleased throughout the whole movie which was fine with me, grandma on the other hand shhhed him once or twice, but in the end we were all cheering and clapping for Speed to win the race. In the end we even got up from our seats and raised our hands in victory. I know, I know sounds lame but what's a granpa and a grandma to do.

If you think we were loud, you should have seen the Asian lady sitting behind us with her kids, you would have sword the whole thing was real, it was obvious they also enjoyed it. And then there was a teenager in front of us wearing a Speed Racer helmet.


Now, if you don't know who Speed Racer is, or grew up watching the series and find yourself going to watch it, you may be disappointed, and if you take your date with you, then you may even be in trouble.

SURROUND SOUND

Finally, a weekend with no events or I least that's what I think. At the very least we have nothing to do this Saturday so we may just chill and relax. Mi chica's new schedule includes Saturday so I will attempt to catch up in some of the house things that need to be done.

For starters my home theater had not been working properly for the past five years, I had let my young in-laws do all the connections and for one reason or another it never worked properly so yesterday as soon as I got home from work I pulled everything out, rearranged our living room and then I started putting one cable at at time on my stereo.

The end result considering I am using a system that is easily over ten years old was great. Now once again I can play my CDs on my DVD player and get rich clear sound out of the stereo speakers, before I just could not get the bass to come out. So I am pretty happy with the results. Some of you may remember a post I had on the local air show. The jets flew so low near my house that I thought my surround sound started working all of a sudden. Well now if I put "Top Guy" in the DVD player the sound of the jets is bound to sound as real as the was the sound the day of the air show.

The only downside is that my "surround" sound viewing time is limited, as our bed room rests right behind our living room TV, which means loud movies could greatly decrease my life expectancy. lol

Any way, I will try to tackle one project at a time from now on, hopefully mi chica will be happy.

Christmas Movies

"Mi chica" and I love watching Christmas movies together. I for one can't get enough
of them. Christmas movies always carry a message of hope and goodwill. Some are just cute while others are real tear jerkers, there are old ones that have become classics and there are new ones that become instant classics.

I don't think I have a favorite, there are many that I look forward to seeing again and again and I know they will be repeated year after year, but it's fun when they show a new one too. This year "mi chica" and I have already watched about six of them so far, at least one of them was a new one.

I just think it's cool to watch something with possitive messages once in a while, these days everything revolves around violence, shooting, killing, etc. On the other hand Christmas movies leave you with that warm fuzzy feelin we all need.
