Let's Walk Again

We now have weather to envy, sorry East Coasters don't mean to rub it in but after almost four months of extreme heat (which I also love) we are now having temperature in the high 80s and low 90s and we are loving it. It sure is making my top down drives super enjoyable.

Wonderful weather like this calls for me to start my daily 2-mile walk again, the doctor has been buggin' me to exercise as my blood pressure has been borderline high and I just don't seem to be able to lower it so I am hoping the walking will help accomplished the task otherwise she will put me on medication and I really am trying to stay away from meds for as long as I can.

Yesterday I resumed my walk and I really enjoyed it, my Apple shuffle was charged and loaded with songs which make my walk even easier to do, of course I still sing along a the top of my lungs, people must think I am crazy or something, but hey they can think anything they want or better yet, they can join me on a duet.

Nice Weather

I can't believe, while the news talk about flight delays and cancellations due to the horrible weather back east we are enjoying some of the best weather we'll probably have all year. Yes, unfortunately for us it's not all roses, eventually it will get go, then it will get hot again and just when you think you are melting it will get hotter. But then again we know that so we are kindda ready for it. But that will be later, for now we enjoy the awesome weather. I'm sorry friends back east.

This morning the weather was about 60 degrees and it was beautiful so I drove with the top down. Yes I wore my jacket but that was all I needed. I love Arizona. Yes, it's hot, but it's a dry heat.

The one thing I dread about this time of year is that my allergies flare up. So far I am not getting that burning sensation in my eyes, but the do tear and itch a lot. They get so red and pouchy that people actually think that I am drunk. I don't even drink.

Then during peak season, I'll get those nasty sneeze attacks. The endless achus just go on and on and on, like the Duracell bunny. But, hey some have to pay that price for the great weather.

Anyway, I just came back from my "lunch walk" and thought I would share with you some of our nice weather. So here it goes... enjoy!

Singing While I Walk

OK,I am officially considered to be loco by the Phoenix residents surrounding my work place. See, while taking my midday walk I decided to listen to some tunes out of my new iPod Shuffle, it certainly made the 35 minutes more enjoyable. What I didn't realize is that while waking I was singing along to the music and some people were having lunch under a big tree and I didn't see them. When I finally saw them they were looking at me funny and I realized then that I was singing pretty loud.

A few minutes later another good song started and by pure instinct my mouth started singing again. Then I realized that two of the cars parked by the sidewalk had people in them eating lunch. They were laughing, I am sure I sounded awful as I've had a sore throat all week.

But hey, que sera, sera they better get used to it because I intend to keep walking every day during my lunch time.

My sister is sending me a pedometer that was given to her but she doesn't use it. I am actually curious to find out how much walking I do.

Walking Again

Now that it's not hot anymore I am doing my "lunch time" walk again. Two miles of walking in 35 minutes. It actually feels good to do it even though I see absolutely no results. Since I don't sweat I am sure I don't lose any weight by walking. I hope to at lest get a good cardio workout out of it.

At work we all received an iPod shuffle as a Christmas present. My daughter loaded it with music I like and yesterday I brought it with me so I could use it during my walk. Well, I think it would help if I turn it off when I finish using it. The last time I used it I just put it away without turning it off and it drained the battery, needless to say, no music while walking until I get it recharged. OK, I really wasn't without music, because I sang and hummed and whistled a song or two.

While on the subject of walking many of you my new readers may not have read THIS POST I did some time ago about a pedometer. Yes, I had no clue as to what a pedometer was and being Mexican I took the meaning out of context. Now that I am walking daily I could use one of those. (And I thought it was used to measure the intensity of a fart).

We always found our destination just fine, but now many people can't find their ways unless they have a GPS, the funny thing is that they still get lost. There are those that claim then can't find their way without it. It makes me wonder how they did it before. I'm as old school as it gets, I still call for directions and find my destination pretty much very easy.

How many of you out there can't do without your GPS?

Walking Report

I am happy to report that I have continued with my 2-mile walk during my lunch hour. Have I lost any weight? I don't know but my legs are gaining muscle and probably getting stronger. The weather is wonderful here so that's not even a problem. It takes me half an hour to do the two miles. I think that's pretty good.

I think that maybe if I had some sort of a diet then it would reflect on the weight but I don't see any diets in my immediate future either. I said this before and I'll say it again, "mi chica" and my mom are both great cooks. Remember the phrase "Of you build it, they will come", well if they cook it, I will eat. Here's a good example, yesterday I ate a shrimp cocktail in the afternoon, then another one before dinner, and the sirloin steak. Hummmm steak!

So as long as I keep walking I think I'll be OK.
